Mr. Ismael Garcia became the Superintendent of Schools in June 2013. He previously served as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in Brownsville, Texas where he oversaw a 500 million dollar budget. Prior to being CFO, Mr. Garcia was the Special Programs Director in charge of multi-million dollar federal and state budgets to facilitate student instruction and staff development for over 48,000 students and over 7,500 staff members. Mr. Garcia also served as the CFO in Raymondville and a classroom teacher in San Benito, Texas for several successful years respectively. However, his most special time of public school service came as the Rio Hondo High School Principal. Some of his most memorable moments in his entire career came from helping our fellow Bobcats flourish into great young men and women.
Mr. Ismael Garcia is married to Mary Garcia, a fellow educator and High School Counselor. They have been happily married for over twenty years. His son, Ismael Jr., is a Social Studies teacher in a neighboring school district. His daughter, Monica, is a high school senior in her hometown of San Benito, Texas.
Mr. Garcia is an avid supporter of STEM project based activities and hopes to make Rio Hondo ISD a College & Career destination for families striving to ensure their children receive the best possible education.
